What a day!

Working in Egypt is a completely different animal than working in the States.  In the States there are rules and procedures.  Here there is chaos.

The Human Resources Director at my university had a meeting with me yesterday.  I have been trying to meet with her for three weeks, but nevermind.  She informed me that my salary was being frozen because I do not have a paper stamped by the American embassy.  Just like that.  I now have an appointment with the embassy to see if I can sort this out, but I still can’t believe it and it certainly doesn’t sound legal.

But the Director is not worried about being legal.  She suggested that I make a fake paper if the embassy will not stamp the paper I have.  And if this is not all completed by the end of the year, then I am fired.  Does she think I will work for no salary because of this paper?  Everyone in the English Department is on edge and on the verge of quitting.

I don’t really trust this director because she keeps lying to me.  She tells me she has everyone else’s papers and that’s not true.  She also has a poster of Hitler in her office.  I think that alone says it all.
