Murder of a Creped Suzette by Denise Swanson

Music promoter Rex Taylor has arrived in Scumble River and he wants to turn it into the Branson of Illinois.  To stir up interest in this idea, he schedules a free concert with his veteran talent, Flint James, and an up and comer, Suzette Neal.  Some Scumble Riverites are excited about the idea, but some like Skye Denison, school psychologist and police consultant, think it will turn Scumble River into a tourist trap and take away that small town feel.

Soon Suzette seeks out Skye’s help in solving the mystery of her mother’s death in Scumble River 20 years earlier.  Just as Skye agrees to help investigate that death, she finds herself investigating two when she discovers Suzette under a steamroller.

I enjoyed reading this book, but the plot seemed familiar.  I can’t pinpoint how exactly, but I feel like I’ve read this argument that divides the residents of Scumble River before.  I also missed old characters like Frannie, Justin, and even Bunny.  They weren’t featured here or in the previous book.   However, I read they do play an important role in the next book.

This series is still one of my favorites because I really love her style of writing.  She knows how to bring Scumble River to life and the relationships between the characters are warm and realistic.
