Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett

Stoneham, New Hampshire has been revitalized by becoming a haven for booklovers.  The formerly empty Main Street has been filled by specialty bookstores.  Tricia Miles is the owner of the mystery bookstore, Haven’t Got A Clue.  She is a bit of an outsider in the small village of Stoneham because she was recruited from New York.  When her neighbor, Doris Gleason, is found stabbed to death, she becomes the primary suspect because she was unlucky enough to find the body.  If that’s not enough to worry about, she also has to contend with her sister Angelica’s decision to move to Stoneham to be near her.   Together, the sisters work to clear Tricia’s name and catch the real killer.

This book is the first in the Booktown series.  I really enjoyed the characters in the story, but I didn’t quite follow some of the points in the book.  For instance, why was Tricia being focused on as the sheriff’s only suspect?  She found the body, but didn’t have a motive for killing Doris.  There was also a point later in the book when a new character trusts Tricia immediately and sends her on a risky mission.  It didn’t quite ring true to me.

The supporting characters of Ginny, Angelica, and Mr. Everett steal the book and I love the relationship they have with Tricia.  I also loved the bits of Tricia’s past that Barrett brought throughout the book.  It helped develop Tricia’s character and show how she ended up in Stoneham.
