Lulu’s Big Weekend

A cat in heat and angry neighbors intensified my search for a compatible vet.  Lulu was brought home from a dumpster about a year ago and while she had had her shots, we had not found a vet that we really felt comfortable with.

That changed with a recommendation from Cairo Scholars.  The vet in question was Dr. Mohamed Shehata.  His iVet Clinic is in Maadi on Road 219.  After a couple of emails and phone calls we made an appointment for Lulu.  We brought her to his clinic on a Friday morning.

I was immediately impressed by what I saw.  His practice is on a quiet leafy street on the first floor of building 22B.  The clinic opens into a small hallway with a surgery room on the left and a bulletin board on the right.  In front of you is the exam table and a small waiting area.

Everyone we met there was very kind and helpful and really put us at ease.  There are some clinic pets that help create an even friendlier atmosphere – they are all rescued from the streets as well.

Dr. Shehata is younger than you would expect and very knowledgeable.  His passion for animals is unmistakable as well.  He even offers a 50% discount for spaying or neutering street cats and dogs.  That really helped us out.

Lulu had her operation on Friday, but stayed overnight.  When we picked her up the next day all was well.  She had a check up and was fixed for 250LE and she is recovering nicely.  The doctor gave us a prescription for an antibiotic spray for the first three days, and Lulu is already back on the dogs.

Speaking of dogs, it’s their turn next month.
