Recently my husband and I went out to dinner with my parents.  We chose Alfonso’s 202 because it was a Monday night and they advertise ½ price entrees on Monday nights.  It wasn’t too busy when we got there, but it slowly filled up.

I ordered the penne vodka and it was really nice.  The sauce was thick and creamy and the pasta was cooked perfectly.  To drink, I got a raspberry iced tea that was also delicious.

My husband ordered the seafood alfredo.  This was fettuccini with a creamy sauce and shrimp and scallops.  He loved it.  The sauce was light and the seafood wasn’t overcooked.

My mom ordered the linguini clam sauce while my dad went for the penne con pollo.  They both enjoyed their dishes.  My dad also got a diet Pepsi.

Everything was great until the check came.  We asked for separate checks and only got one, but we were also charged for two drinks that we didn’t order.  We asked our waitress about this and she said that that was the only way to get the half price entrees and that if she took the invisible drinks off we would have to pay full price.  She said that the manager confirmed that was the only option.

We asked to speak to this manager and were quickly appalled by his attitude.  Joe, who held himself with the bearing of a Jersey Shore reject, quickly snapped that we were to blame for not asking about this offer.  As you can see, it says nothing on the menu about asking for details or buying a drink.  There is also nothing on the website or in the restaurant itself.  If the waitress doesn’t inform you, how are you to know?  Joe couldn’t seem to comprehend that most businesses don’t advertise only half of a promotion, but provide all the details.

Joe then went on to quiz us on the other offer advertised for buy one get one half off on Tuesday nights.  He kept asking us how we would interpret that.  For all the nine years in management that he bragged about, his attitude was a complete failure.

He refused to adjust our check for the drinks and we ended up taking them to go.  But Joe wasn’t done yet.  While he was adjusting our single check into two, we saw and heard him talking about us to his wait staff as they gawked at our table.

The whole problem could have been solved if he took off the two drinks and told us about this policy for the next visit.  Instead, he made it into a confrontation and lost us all as customers.
