Five of the Worst Must-See Horror Movies

Not all horror movies are created equal. There are some out there that are so bad, they’re good. This list is a guide to some of the best worst horror movies. They might not scare you, but Popcornyou’ll definitely be entertained.

Road Kill (2010) is a completely nonsensical Australian horror film with an evil truck as the main antagonist. Four friends are returning from a camping trip in the outback when they are run off the road by a giant truck. The truck has no driver and appears to run on blood. There are some references to Cerberus and mythology, but not enough to make sense. Overall, Road Kill is more likely to have you laughing at the effects and storyline than shaking with fear.

Sorority Row (2009) will have you scratching your head if you’re looking for a plot, but the comic moments and an intriguing killer more than make up for it. An unlikely cast of Rumer Willis, Audrina Patridge, and Carrie Fisher make this film come alive. A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of own of their own when a prank goes horribly wrong. They cannot rest, though, because a serial killer is trying to make them pay for their mistakes. After one viewing of this film you’ll never look at a tire iron the same way again.

Salvage (2009) is either genius or sorely lacking. It all depends on what you expect from a horror movie. The film starts with a teenage girl being sent to her absentee mother’s house for a visit. They get off to a rocky start and the teen leaves for a friend’s house. At that point, the military storms the neighborhood and tells everyone to stay in their houses; they are in the midst of some sort of attack. The budget is quite low on this British production and the attacker is never fully seen. The story falls short in the end, but viewers will still be captivated by the mother’s struggle and some nice acting.

Skeleton Crew (2009) is a campy Finnish production that is a movie in a movie. The movie inside the movie is being filmed at a mental institution somewhere along the Russian border. When the crew discovers a cache of videos of the director of the institution torturing patients to death, the film’s director snaps and the crew is in danger. The dialogue is awkward and the acting is a bit campy as the crew tries to evade the crazed director and stick together. Clumsy delivery and a nice setting make this surreal movie worth watching – even if it’s just for laughs.

Nine Dead (2009) has an interesting premise, but the acting and storyline are woefully under par. Nine strangers wake up together in a room after being kidnapped and chained to separate poles. A masked gunman comes in and tells them that they have ten minutes to discover why they are there. If they do not find out, he will kill one of them and then the ten minutes will start again. Fans of Melissa Joan Hart will enjoy seeing her in a very different role, but she can’t save the script. The ending will leave you shaking your head, but the concept is enough to keep you captivated for the whole 98 minutes.

It is difficult to find a well made and well acted horror film, but even the weaker efforts can be enjoyed. If you are looking for some light entertainment on a rainy day, then these movies are for you.
