The Mixing Bowl is a new bakery that has just opened up across from Liberty Village.  It’s small, but has a nice array of sweets.  It looks like everything is baked in small batches, so everything there is very fresh.  We went there for the cupcakes.  I love cupcakes.  The Mixing Bowl didn’t disappoint.

The bakery is cut in half with the baking done on the premises in the back of the store.  There is one table in the front and you can get coffee along with your sweets.  The cupcakes come in two sizes – regular or mini.  There were day old minis for just $0.50.  The large cupcakes are $1.75.  My husband and I each got a peanut butter cupcake.  They had one with chocolate cake and one with vanilla.  We both loved them.  The cake part was very moist and the icing was fantastic.  It wasn’t too sweet and the peanut butteriness tasted full, but light.  There is no peanut butter center, though.

The other cupcake flavors looked really good, too.  It was hard to get just two cupcakes for us.  We got my mom a chocolate cupcake and she loved it, too.

When we were checking out, we tried a few of the free samples.  My husband loved his, so we got two linzer tarts as well.  They were from a fresh batch and were also delicious.  The cookie part was crisp and went well with the jam filling.

Aside from cupcakes and linzer tarts, the bakery also offers muffins, scones, lemon bars, cookies, brownies, blondies, crumb cake, and other goodies.  The woman who helped us was also lovely.  She really gave the place a nice atmosphere and it was like walking into your mom’s kitchen.

I am looking forward to going back and trying the rest of their offerings.  The hours are a bit limited.  They are closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  A pity if you are craving a cupcake in the middle of the week.
